Easter weekend

Okay, outdated post. Easter this year was quite memorable. In the spirit of Good Friday, Eugene and I decided to watch The Passion of Christ. I don't remember when the tears started rolling down my cheeks, but they did and they didn't stop till after the show. The movie direction was so telling and so gruesome at the same time. It's hard to imagine a total stranger laying down his life for you, what more the Son of God. Watching Jesus do just that - it's kinda hard to comprehend. I am totally addicted to the Sims (1, 2 and all the expansion packs oh yeah) and I can spend hours meticulously crafting out my dream family and home. But the part from which I derive utmost satisfaction is taking it all to the dogs once everything's engineered into place. The perfect existence stained by quarrels, extramarital affairs, poor relationship communication, letting your newborn get picked up by social services cos you're too tired to handle their incessant wailing. Fine so maybe there's not much of a platform for comparison because the Sims isn't real and we are - but if I were God and I came up with an idea to create a world and I had every exquisite detail down to a pat, like how its inhabitants are gonna stay upright without falling off the face of the Earth and into the black hole, how plants are gonna be at the very bottom of the food chain but actually they're the smartest cos they can make their own food, this phenomenon called day and night, etc; I'd be pissed off if everyone weren't on their knees venerating me every 10 mins and calling me The Great Ong Doen Xian. And since every entity is susceptible to wear and tear, I'd give my world a good Holocausting every now and then to stop the wrongs permeating the rights and the rights from becoming over-rights. And when I'm bored, I'd snap my fingers and poof, everything I created will turn to dust. Heck I'd start again from scratch but with Martians this time.

But to think that God would actually lay down His life to redeem our errors rather than just whitewash the lot of us who are with defect - it's something that will never cease to amaze me. 6.65 billion human beings, 1 divine being. Our world is living proof of God, and its continuity evidence of His mercy. It would have been so much easier to blow us up, don't you think?

Eugene was also baptised into that weekend. I've not been to a Catholic Easter mass before so I found this one rather interesting. I was looking through some of my old blog posts and aiyo I am so verbose so here are some photos (and videos!) cos everyone loves photos ne.

Baptism of water - scroll to 2:10 for the actual dunking

Rites of confirmation

Drunk with... God's love gagagaga

Eugene attends mass at Newman House, a Catholic chaplaincy opposite UCL. The building is huge - it houses a chapel, accommodation for students, library, even a lounge/bar area downstairs! We had roast lamb, couscous and some mushroom fried rice thingy after Easter mass was over and then... PARTY TIME?!?!?! Booze was flowing, people were dancing the salsa and man I couldn't believe I was in church. It's not that Christians/Catholics aren't allowed to drink or have a good time but rather the juxtaposition of being solemn in the chapel upstairs and as soon as it's over we're downstairs whooping away and making merry.

Btw my exams have already started so I'm probably going to be off blog duty for about a month? I'll squeeze in an occasional update or two if I'm up to it. Eeeeee I can't believe I'm almost done!!!!!!!! I'm going to be a graduate wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
