D-Day

Today was A Borderline Mixtape's first gig at Inverse, King's College London. And it all worked out so well. The set was loud, proud and exhilarating. Ifham, Joey, Lijun and I were up front with the crowd whilst the rest were either standing on chairs or the counter top. The set only featured 4 songs, but after the last song we started chanting, "One more, one more" and the band willingly obliged and performed Hope. I had muchos fun yelling and singing my lungs out but some dude standing behind me outdid me by getting the Seventy Times Seven bit of the Lollipop Boy medley, which I didn't know.

We didn't stay for all the bands, but amongst the 7 or so bands we heard, ABM was my favourite (not one hint of bias here!). My heart was indescribably light the rest of the night. I can't express it in words, but one thing I'm sure of is that I felt really proud of Azlan that day, because he's accomplished something so worthwhile and close to his heart. It was quite touching too, because the three of them have worked their butts off molding the band into what it is now - and this is probably only the start of bigger things to come.

Anyhoo, check out the photos on

I wish you guys could've seen it. You would've loved every second of it, as I did.

The fourth birthday this month

This is the person I am always talking about, the one who has been my housemate since the days of Croydon up till now (with the exception of last year), whose name no one can get right and who is also known as the Fart and Sudoku Queen:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZUHI TAN! :D:D:D

It's all gone Harry Potter

I've never felt more grateful for the weekend. Towards the end of the week I felt like I was just sludging through the motions and losing myself to routine. After class on Friday I went straight home and collapsed, fatigued, on the couch and slept till 5 pm. Tomorrow I have to work on Lil's assignment and the script for B-Nite, as well as prepare for my Criminal tute and Jurisprudence seminar. Then there's the Attica event come Tuesday, the UCLUMS gathering on Wednesday, Zhi Hui's birthday on Thursday which coincides with A Borderline Mixtape's gig, and the ICUBS dinner on Friday. Thank goodness my Property, Public and Contract & Tort tutes were last week.

We watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today. The movie didn't stay 100% true to the book and I'm not sure if that's a good thing. I wasn't too impressed that they'd omitted Dobby and Kramer. And they didn't explain how Harry obtained the Gillyweed, how Ron, Hermione, Cho and Fleur's sister got underwater, and how Profs Dumbledore, McGonagall and Snape found Harry with Mad-Eye Moody in the tower. AND I felt that something more should have been done about Ron and Hermione's underlying feelings for each other. But Eugene, Chun How and Lil were able to follow the movie well enough, and they don't read the book series. The highlight of the movie? Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort. His movements are so fluid and fluttery, it's like ballet in motion. Other things to note: Harry has abs! And Cedric Diggory is not that hot. I personally prefer Viktor Krum. He looks a bit puffy in his thick coat and military uniform, but there's one bit where he's jogging by the lake in a singlet and shorts. Oober buff and SO worth the screen time!

Etc.

On Friday night, Eugene and I had a script discussion at Brunei Hall with the rest of the B-Nite committee. We threw out a truckload of ideas and I think we're off to a good start. Got home just around past midnight and played poker with Azlan, Johm, Eugene, Chun How, Lil and Suan until 3 am. Then, whilst teman-ing Azlan and Eugene at the window ledge a while later for their usual cigarette break, we ended up mucking about with some proposed scenes from B-Nite which only resulted in our neighbour popping her head out of her flat and moaning, "Please pleaseeee, it's 2.30 in the morning". So we sheepishly headed back up to join everyone else for Risk. It was only short of a catastrophe. Eugene was new to the game, Azlan only wanted to preserve his continent, Lil and I were supposed to be allies, Johm and CH didn't play, and amidst the cacophony Suan managed to conquer Australia and most of the Asian terrain. The game was done by about 6-ish. With 4 down (CH was Notts-bound, Suan and Lil were fast asleep, Eugene had his OSC football thing) Johm, Azlan and I stayed up till 9 watching the early episodes of Naruto. Lil woke me up at 2 pm, cutting short my necessary 8 hours of sleep and the three of us (me, Lil, Johm) carried on with Naruto. It's now 7.45 pm and I'm waiting for Zhi Hui's, Suan's and my Indian takeout to arrive. It's been an hour since placing the order and my stomach is giving me flak. I wonder how the remainder of my weekend will turn out.

The man in my life

My dad's a cardiologist. So I sent him this SMS:

Happy Birthday Daddy! Work heart. Get it? Ha ha. Love you.

And the reply I got was:

Thx. Love you too.

So potong steam! I wonder if he got the joke.

On a side note, I was initiated into the Imperial College Bruneian Society (ICUBS) today as the Brunei Night director. Eugene's the president and also one of the society's founders. He's always scolding me for not showing enough enthusiasm. I only hope the UCL Malaysian Society (UCLUMS) are okay with my being B-Night director because 1) I'm their M-Night producer, 2) I'm not from Imperial College and 3) I'm not even the least bit Bruneian. This Eugene la. Coerce me into doing things. Eugene, if you're reading this, I'm only kidding :P

READ THIS FIRST

This is a special shout out to a special someone whom I've known for almost 8 years now. To the bold, the beautiful (I will only say this once a year), the boobless, the bouncy, Teoh Yen Phing - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy birthday to you, you live in a zoo,
You look like a monkey, aaaaaaaaand you smell like one too!

I miss you heaps bebeh!

Daylight savings off

I'm not sure whether to say the clocks have gone forward or backward but put simply, my watches are all wound one hour back. 3 years in England and I still don't understand the purpose of daylight savings. Someone told me it was so that the farmers had one extra hour to work in the fields.

The other day Lil and Eugene were showing off their dictionaries of cheesy pick-up lines. Stuff like "If I could rearrange the alphabet I would put U and I together" and "If you were a tear in my eye I would never cry for fear of losing you". Sigh. Can you believe the friends I have? I personally prefer Yo Mama lines. Here's one I got off www.jokes.com - Yo mama so short she jumped off a curb to commit suicide! Okay okay, so they're offensive, but you've gotta admit they're funny too.

I watched Domino earlier tonight with Lil, Azlan and Suan. It was slightly draggy at times, but interesting on the whole. It took me awhile to grasp the concept of a bounty hunter though. Ooh and you get to see Keira Knightley's tetek here. She seems to like showing off her assets in her movies. Even in The Jacket you could get a clear view of them. Okay so maybe she didn't do the same in Pirates of the Caribbean, but I suppose she only covered them for the sake of the many kids watching the movie.

Btw, if you are free, do check out A Borderline Mixtape's website on myspace. You can see the link on the right hand side of this page. A Borderline Mixtape is the band that Azlan's in, together with Hiro and Izzhar. They play some pretty good shit, like pop-emo-rock-but-not-too-heavy. Their material's self-penned too. And I personally like their music. So what are you waiting for? GET CLICKING ON THE LINK NOW! When they become famous, you'll regret not recognising their talent sooner.

It's my "last" day at school tomorrow. I'm off on Thursday and Friday and next week's Reading Week. Good stuff.
